Australian Shepherds
The Aussie is our main breed here at Independence. We strive to raise well balanced, excellent temperament and structurally correct dogs. Our aussies come from excellent blood lines with excellent pedigrees. My interest in this breed has dramatically increased in the last few years as my knowledge of the breed grows. The Aussie is an extremely versatile dog. All of our Aussies have good breed type, style and conformation resulting in excellent movement. They have the mentality and high trainability to do lots of things such as herding, chasing things, babysitting, agility, conformation, frisbee, flyball, search and rescue, protecting their home... or just being good family companions. Aussie's have an extreme willingness to please and therefore do well in all these venues. Our Aussies are all AKC/ASCA registered, OFA certified. CERF eyes annually.
Whippets
Our whippets are primarily our Jr dogs. Although I have a great closeness to these dogs, my daughter and our handler Jody Paquette are co-owning and showing them. The whippet is a most exceptionally affectionate breed. They are graceful, intelligent, eager to please and generally healthy. Whippets are exceptional companions for humans! They make excellent house dogs and extremely devoted friends. They are natural athletes, and enjoy an abundance of activities, such as lure coursing, racing, chasing little furry things.....But at the same time, they are relaxed and can warm a couch with their human, sleeping soundly as long as you like. Keep in mind, whippet puppies can be rambunctious for about a year. We may occasionaly have a co-owned litter with Wenrick whippets.
